It was a big day for the violin and piano-infused Minneapolis pop-punk quintet, "All The Right Moves" when lead singer/songwriter Brandon Daly got a phone call from an industry contact working out in LA at Winogradsky/Sobel Publishing, telling them that their song, "The Impatient, The Imperfect, The Impossible" was selected to be licensed in the soundtrack to the upcoming comedy-thriller, "Piranha 3DD". The film is a sequel to 2010's Piranha 3D, and it will be released world-wide via Dimension Films on June 1, 2012.
As ironic as the band's name is, All The Right Moves seemed to have made all the right steps leading up to their success with the Piranha 3DD soundtrack. Their debut self-titled EP (from which the song came from) was first released in 2008 and immediately received notorious viral response. The band soon found themselves playing Vans Warped tour, opening for bands like The Plain White T's & All Time Low, selling over 20,000 units and climbing their way to the Top 10 Best Selling Albums on Smartpunk.com.
Meanwhile, Brandon Daly was attending college at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, MN. It was there that he met Ron Sobel, in 2010, after a speech he gave to the student body. After Ron's discussion about his experience in music licensing, Brandon saw the potential and approached him blindly about his band's music. Ron gladly accepted the offer to review All The Right Moves. Ron was excited about what he heard, and expressed sincere interest in signing ATRM to a publishing deal with Winogradsky/Sobel. The band submitted their entire discography (3+ albums) to the company's library - over 30 songs at the time- a deal that eventually landed them the licensing deal with Dimension.
This wasn't the first time that All The Right Moves had their music licensed to film and TV. After the release of their second full-band EP, titled "The Monster I've Become" in 2010, the band was contacted by Bunnim-Murray after an A&R rep found their music on the front page of Purevolume.com. They offered ATRM a licensing deal with MTV - a deal that consisted of a number of songs from "The Monster I've Become" being used on reality shows such as "Real World: Las Vegas", "Real World: San Diego", "Cutthroat: The Challenge", "Cutthroat: Battle of the Exes", and more.
With Piranha 3DD hitting theaters this summer, its perfect timing for All The Right Moves to release their brand new full-length album. Produced by platinum mixer Rob Freeman (ex- Hidden In Plain View guitarist/ also recorded Gym Class Heroes, Hit the Lights, Cobra Starship), the album is called "When Your Compass Breaks" and is a concept album with a strong "sailing theme" consisting of some of the most exciting music the band's put together to date. "We've put the new album together a lot like that of a great movie. While each song paints a different story, they all interconnect with reoccurring themes, and there are transitions connecting tracks, so that the entire album is one, big musical experience, with no interruptions or silence between tracks," states Daly. "There's more focus on the violin, piano and storytelling aspects of our music. We've spent the better part of a year working on it and we can't wait to see how people react."
For those who are familiar with the cult attraction, Piranha 3DD is an over-the-top comedy horror film along the same lines as "Snakes on a Plane". Whereas Piranha 3D took place at Lake Victoria, this time the sequel takes place in a waterpark that becomes over-run with blood-thirsty Piranhas. While the waterpark is governed by the world's most famous lifeguard, David Hasselhoff, we also find out from scientist, played by Christopher Llyod (who played Doc Brown in Back to the Future) that the Piranhas have evolved and are much more deadly and aggressive than before. The film features a huge cast of other well-known actors, including Ving Rhames, Gary Busey and David Koechner. "I just can't believe we are going to have our music played in the same movie as "The Hoff!" states Daly. "He's my hero!"
