Steven R. Hill, Owner of Windswept Studios, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in art.

Mr. Hill's career in art began before he knew what most painting terms meant. His first big award was bestowed on him when he was a fourth-grader in Boise, Idaho; he earned first place in a city-wide art contest sponsored by the American Red Cross. His interest in art only grew after that, and he has now spent four decades dedicated to this form of expression, becoming the owner of his own studio. With expertise in the use of color in artwork, he devotes 50 to 60 hours a week to painting and creating art.

In 1970, Mr. Hill earned a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts and Art Education from Boise State University. Although he wanted to enter the art field without delay, the Vietnam draft sealed his immediate future. In 1972, he returned to Washington State University and earned a Master of Fine Arts in painting. He was able to study with notable artists, such as Robert Helm, Gaylen Hansen and Robert Sterling, before he moved to Lopez Island in the San Juan Islands of Washington State, to help set up a private art school. It wasn't long before he started his own successful graphic design business. In the late 1990s, he sold this business in order to paint full time, which has proven to be completely rewarding. As the name of his enterprise, Windswept Studios, suggests, he finds inspiration in painting landscapes on-site.

Mr. Hill is a member of the Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters, and is a signature member and former president of the Northwest Pastel Society. Throughout his career, he has earned a number of awards for his work, including First Place from the Plein Air Painters of Washington in 2008 and 2009, and Best of Show at the 25th Annual Northwest Pastel Society International Juried Fine Arts Competition in Tacoma, Wash. In the coming years, Mr. Hill intends to participate in more events and galleries.
